Cans For Comments!

December 1, 2009

Last year I participated in Cans For Comments, and while managed to snag 8 comments, this year I’m hoping to get a lot more!

In case you’re not familiar with Cans For Comments, here’s the rundown, professional photographers from all over the country have a dedicated blog post for people to leave comments, and for every comment on that post, we will donate one canned good to charity! If anyone had any doubts about there still being a great need for help like this, let me share a little tidbit of information with you! A local organization, Interfaith Community Council, recently disclosed that in the past during this time of year, they have around 80 families apply for assistance, this year? OVER 300!!! I know I have been blessed in so many ways and what an opportunity to help others! The last day for comments will be December 14th so I have time to get the cans and drop them off! Plus, anyone who books a portrait or boudoir session, I’ll donate and extra $10 in can goods!

It’s a fun way to network, check out new people, and do some good. So leave me a comment and let’s stock these food pantries!

Penelope has some pretty fantastic things going for her. Not only is she stinkin’ adorable, but her parents are some of the sweetest most genuine people I know. I always get excited when people choose me to photograph their families and special moments, but when it’s friends, it’s all the more special.

Congrats Scott and Emily, she’s beautiful and you’re all just, oh so blessed.

Scott and Emily, had Penny’s announcment custom designed. and if the awesomeness looks familiar it’s because it was done by the some wonderful designer who did my logo and business cards. If you need any type of design work, you should absolutely check her out. Emilee Stites- EmileeStites(at)gmail.com

Baby Silas is one of the cutest, chubbiest most adorable babies ever. But then again, look at his parents, the kid comes from pretty good stock.  Silas’s mom and I have been friends for quite a while and the sessions where I know and am friends with the clients are some of the best. (and sometimes stressful! haha)

Take a peek and see if you don’t agree!

Tonight was my very first photo session with OpLove.org, which is a volunteer organization in which photographers donate portrait sessions to deployed military families!

Carl and Sian’s marriage and Carls leaving all take place within 7 days of each other. I wanted to quickly get some images edited and to them so Carl could have some on his email until I can get his proofs to him.

Please check out OpLove.org for more info on this awesome group!

For Father’s Day, Alicia (who happens to be my sister!) gifted Rene’ with some fabulous family portraits. His daughter Makayla lives on the west coast with her mother and Rene and Alicia get her during the summer and the winter holidays. He needed some good pictures of he and his daughter!!

Back in August when Louisville got slammed with some quick and heavy rainfall, one of the casualties was the downtown branch of the Louisville Free Public Library. (click here to see images of the flooding and damage!)

While it’s true, I don’t live in Louisville and can’t utilize this library, it still hurts my heart. As a kid, my mom, sister and I spent lots of time during the summer in our local library, enjoying the air conditioning, participating in the summer reading program, story hours, plays etc. My mom worked hard to instill a love of and appreciation for books and reading. I consider myself to be an excellent reader, and while my own children take up much of my free time anymore, when possible I like to get my hands on a book. When my husband and I were dating, many of our date nights consisted of evenings spent at the book store, perusing the clearance racks and making wish lists, we’d go to the home and garden section and look at books and talk about our future home, I’d giggle nervously as we walked past the adult ’self-improvement’ section, we’d snag classics at discounted price to begin building our future children’s library. Books were important to me then, and they are now. I owe a lot of that to that time spent at the library. Without the library, I would never have been able to get my hands on as many books as I did. I would check out 10 books at a time and be back a week later for more.

As my children are growing and my son on the verge of reading, it warms me to see his passion for books, just like his father and I. For birthdays and Christmas, we typically request family members who’d like to celebrate with us that they consider gifting a copy of their favorite book as opposed to a plastic, new toy from Target.

So needless to say, when I learned about the damage that had been done to the library and saw how others were already organizing efforts to raise money, I contacted my friend Michelle of ConsumingLouisville.com. She was putting together a bake-sale to raise money. I told her I would donate a portrait package for her to use as she saw fit. She has, in her infinite wisdom, placed the portrait package up for auction at ConsumingLouisville.com. So hop on over there and place your bid, you’ll be helping the library and get some awesome pictures in the end!

You know how some pregnant women just look gorgeous and like the vision of picture-perfect baby belly?! Yeah, that’s Robin. It’s like she was made to have gorgeous maternity shots taken! She and I have known each other for 6 or 7 years and a couple years ago she moved with her husband to North Carolina, she knew she was going to be back here for a friends wedding and called to book a session!

Shooting Robin and Anthony was cake, they’re both easy going and, hello! super photogenic, not to mention hilarious be sure to check out the so funny ‘Baby Maker’ shirt!

Andy shipped off today to Fort Benning for Infantry Officer training, and will be gone for quite a few months. So before he left, Emily wanted some pictures of them together.

Here’s a quick preview!
